Retail Sales Up Sharply In First Quarter ‘07, According to OrderMotion Index
Merchants Report A 10% Jump In Revenue & Transaction Volume Over Same Period ‘06
Retail merchants are experiencing a sharp sales increase so far in 2007, according to the latest OrderMotion Index, which tracks transaction information for more than 1,000 retail brands across the United States. Through the first quarter of 2007, merchants in the Index have shown a 10% rise in revenue and transaction volume over the same period in 2006. According to the Index, merchants selling computers/consumer electronics experienced a 57% rise in revenue, while the apparel & accessories category saw a 35% jump in revenue.
OrderMotion, the provider of an on-demand direct commerce solution for direct marketers, e/tailers and multi-channel retailers, monitors transaction data for 270 merchants that use the OrderMotion solution to manage back-office operations for more than 1,000 brands across multiple sales channels.
“There’s been an upward trend for months now, which certainly is a positive sign for small- to medium-sized retailers,“ said Donny Askin, CEO, OrderMotion. Many of the merchants included in the OrderMotion Index have experienced dramatic growth over the past years and it is definitely exciting to see companies grow from small mom and pop stores to well-known household names. ”
The OrderMotion Index tracks transaction data, average order value and sales figures from OrderMotion customers with over a year of transaction history. These direct marketers and retailers are primarily small-to-medium sized businesses, with overall sales of less than $20 million each year.
